Meet Gad (with an “a” not an “o”!). He wants to keep the memory of Ruhondeza the Silverback alive and is the storyteller about him. Gad is a family man with four children. Gad and his family are an integral and valued part of the community in Buhoma where Ruhondeza Lodge & Camp Site is situated.
Gad left school with a passion for conservation, education and tourism. After obtaining a Certificate in Education Gad worked in a hotel in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest before joining the Ugandan Wildlife Authority. He was one of the first rangers to be involved in habituating the gorillas you will hopefully see during your visit. Since then he has been a tracker and then a guide working with visitors to the National Park. He also works with his local community and schools to spread the conservation message. He has seen the gorilla families on an almost daily basis for 20 years so there is no-one better to be involved in Ruhondeza Lodge & Camp Site.
Sam and Pete have recently finishing volunteering in Uganda for a two year period. Sam is an experienced manager in the UK spanning the education, community, medical and charity sectors. In Uganda she was Development Manager for UK based Volunteer Uganda and worked as management support at Great Lakes Regional University. Pete is an experienced engineer with a focus on water and put his skills to use in a variety of situations in Uganda.
Sam and Pete met Gad whilst gorilla trekking and having struck up a conversation with him on the way back down made an agreement to visit Ruhondeza Lodge & Camp Site to give advice and support. Although volunteers in Uganda they were so impressed with the vision and experience that Gad offers that they offered to give their time. Sam has designed this website and will support with marketing and Pete is always happy to lend his technical expertise.
Support for Ruhondeza Lodge & Camp Site is truly international! Chad Zamarin and his son, Tate (pictured above) are from the USA – they were so impressed were so impressed with what Ruhondeza is trying to achieve that they are helping financially with the set up costs.
